Its been quite a while since you heard from us, Smudge! has a rough spot recently (last post: April 27, 2008 – Oh dear O_O ) But don’t worry! We have given the site a proper clean up, deleted many a post sadly, but it is new and impoved! We realise it was probably hard for you so know where to start in terms of designs, so we have collected together a well-balanced variety of designs with some for all, and updated some of the names to … well, cooler ones! We have also deleted some of the sections, and yes, we’re afraid the videos have gone, but hopefully now Smudge will be simpler and easier to use. It’s finally time to move on from dark and neutral colours to something a little more exciting when it comes to eyes this spring. The trend is encouraging a fresh, relaxed and free spirited style, with nude shades and a few bright sporty colours thrown in too.

Push boundries a bit and try more upbeat, cool and breezy shades such as orange or pale blue and white, but keep attention focused on the eyes: matte skin is still in and stick to nude or pale shades with the lips.

Heres a few examples of what we mean:

                                          

 Nude lips are a must know technique – they look lovely on their own (left) or as a base to apply stronger colours (right). They can be used to enhance eye makeup, hence the reason you need to know!

You will need:

A concealer or liquid foundation.

Lip balm

White eyeshadow

1.Liberally coat your lips in lipbalm. Completely drench them, they must be really moist!

2. Now, with a lip brush, apply the concealer in little bits, firstly around the edges of your lips, then in the middle. Rub your lips together to spread it evenly. 

3. Reapply your lip balm to keep your lips moist.

4. To further highlight your lips, add a thin layer of white eyeshadow to add a little bit of shimmer!

This is where you can apply your darker lipstick if you want to. Instead of going over the whole area of you lips over and over again, build up one area of your lips to enhace colour. Good luck!  

A simple, summery look, you can dress it up or down for a night or daytime look. The most flexible design on Smudge!!

You will need:

Liquid and kohl pencil eyeliner (black)

Greeny-brown and hazelnut eyeshadows

Powder

Mascara

1. Prime your eyes with powder.

2. First, line your waterline with the kohl pencil. Make this line as heavy as you can. Then carefully draw a line with the pencil along your top lashline. Again, this should be pretty heavy.

3. With a large eyeshadow brush, take the greeny brown eyeshadow up to your browbone. Make this quite a full colour. Add a little water to your brush if needed.

4. Now, with the same brush, use the hazlenut eyeshadow along the edge of your eye and work it along the browbone. Make this blend in but keep applying the colour until it is heavy enough for you.

5. Go over your eyeliner on the top lashline with liquid eyeliner. Then with the pencil reline your waterline.

6. Apply mascara if necessary.

Though, not all the much has changed. Seamless matte skin is still in, and with the presence of nude lips still lingering, pale and interesting is still important. Visit our Preparation psge for any tips on using foundation and getting perfect skin.

When it comes to eyes, think winter! Smokey eyes are still in, just toned down a little since last time: silvers and greys matched with black and grey eyeliners are big, so check out our Eva Green Celeb Tutorial for more info on smokey eyes. Eyebrows have also got a little softer.

Here’s what we mean:

You will need:

• Green eyeshadow
• Blue eyeshadow
• Mascara

1.With a coloured liquid eyeliner or with a damp eyeliner brush and the green coloured shadow, draw a line across the top and bottom lashes and bring it out to a flick. Join the flicks in one large flick and colour in the missed areas. Then, on the inside of your eye, use the same techniqueand make sure it blends in so there is a smooth transition between blue and green.

2.Then, when this is dry, apply heavy mascara to the top and bottom lashes.

3.For a really funky look, while the mascara is still wet, sprinkle some of the eyeshadow or a similar tone of eyeshadow if you are using eyeliner on the lashes. The best way to do this is to raise your eyebrows, tilt your head down and look up wide-eyed into the mirror. wipe of any shadow that gets onto the face, or you may like to smudge it for a really great clubbing/disco look.

Be stunning with this amazing peacock look. Match with a flawlessly pale face and a neutral lipstick and you will look amazingly glamourous – try this for a formal event, but maybe tone down the eyeliner a little!

You will need

Eyeshadow in:

gold, bronze, pale lilac, purple, brown, turquoise, silver.

Eyeliner (pencil and liquid)

1. Apply the gold all over the lid.

2. Dab some bronze on the inside of your eye, near to the tear duct.

3. On the middle stripe of your eye, apply the pale lilac, and then on the outside create a large sweep/flick with the purple.

4. Apply the turquoise on the outer corner and blend into the crease.

5. Apply the brown over this to tone it down.

6. Apply your liquid eyeliner. Sweep it on your lashline normaly, then build it up. When you’re done, pull the skin, where you want to apply the long flick, taut and draw the line.

7. Now, apply a little pencil liner under your bottom lashes and join this line to the long flick.

8. Make a paste with the turquoise. Above the liner line, apply in a thick stroke.

And You’re Done!!

• A pale green eyeshadow.
• Bright blue eyeshadow, as bright as possible
• A blue eyeliner
• Black mascara

1. Okay, so with the blue eyeliner (liquid is best, but if you don’t have a liquid then use a sharpened khol), draw a line as close as possible to the lashes on the upper lid, pulling the eyelid taught. Bring it out to the outer corner of your eye in a flick.

2. From about half way along your lower lid (I’d say a bit less, acually), apply more liner and bring it up to meet the flick you made on the upper lid, and just bring it out in a point, looking sharp (see images below if your confused!).

3. Using your bright blue eyeshadow, mix it to a paste on the back of your hand and apply with a fine brush on top of your eyeliner to make it stronger. If you’re using a liquid eyeliner and it is already quite strong, you could skip this bit.

4. Dust your lid to the crease with green eyeshadow. Nice and simple!

5. Go over your blue line, incase it has been covered a bit with the green.

6. Apply your black mascara, and you’re done!

This design is airy and well balanced, It is indended to make you feel bright, happy and in tune with nature …. =D

Mascara or fake eyelashes

1. Lightly outline your design with eyeliner pencil. Line along the crease, and create a large flick at the end which joins with the outer corner of your eye.

2.Fill this shape in with vaseline or lip balm, using a sponge applicator.

3. Apply a light tone on the middle third of your eye, keeping inside the boudry that you drew.

4. Now, apply the mid tone on the middle, and the darktone on the corner. be careful that you Make the end flick neat.

5. Apply long, spider like fake eyelashes or simply follow the heavy mascara guide on the mascara page.

You will need:

Sky Blue Eyeshadow

Turquoise eyeliner or Eyeshadow

Powder

Vaseline or similar

Mascara

Lipstick in Pink

1. First, apply some Vaseline sparingly to your eyelid and just above the crease. Then sweep a big blob of powder under your eyes.

2. Now, sweep a lot of blue over the eyelid. We’re not trying to achieve tone and texture here, just a matte colour. This is why you need to apply the vaseline, so that the colour clings to your eyelid.

3. Using your turquoise eyeliner (or the eyeshadow paste) apply a line close to the lashes and flick it out as far as it suits you. Now, do the same along your bottom lashes, but start halfway, and flick it out until it is parallel to the other line you drew on the top.

4. No, apply mascara sparingly to your lashes. You don’t want them to be the centre of attention for your design, but the intense blues.

5. Apply some of the Vaseline to your lips. Now, apply the lipstick over this, and blot it with a tissue. Now apply it again. This will make the colour last much longer.
