Preparation

For those of you who really are beginners at this, you need to start from the beginning. Before you apply ANY makeup, you need to follow these fundamental steps to ensure that you get the most out of your makeup. So here we go…

You Will Need:

Facial Scrub/Cleanser
A good foundation
Powder
Light moisturiser
Blusher (optional)
Bronzer (optional)

1. Wash your face well with a facial scrub or a facial cleanser. If you use a facial scrub be sure to leave it a little while before you apply any makeup because some scrubs open your pores, and you don’t want to undo all the good work you’ve done by slapping on the makeup. NEVER, and I repeat NEVER, use a normal bog standard soap on your face – it’s a crime and it’ll dry up your skin!

2. Apply a light moisturiser. You can either mix it in with your foundation, or simply put some on and brush your foundation over before it soaks in. This will make your skin look fresh and healthy. If you slap it on before bed, too, you’ll have a fully-hydrated face come the morning!

3. Apply your foundation using light strokes from the centre of your face out wards. Particuarly on the side of you nose, your cheeks and your chin.

4. When you have done this, leave it to dry out a little. Then, with a large sponge brush or a soft bristled brush, go over your whole face with a powder. This sets the foundation in place and stops grease penetrating the foundation. When choosing your powder shade, always go for something that tones with your foundation but is a couple of shades lighter. This will give the impression of clearer and more youthful skin.

5. If you want to keep a rosy complexion, with a large soft bristled brush, sweep some good quality blusher in a peach shade over the cheekbones to define them. However, if you prefer a clean nude look, don’t bother with blusher.

7. Voila! If you want to finish of your gorgeous base in style, sweep some lovely bronzer where the sun would normally hit your face for an amazing sun kissed look!
